Alpine 3800 series switches enable new technologies with intelligent security and availability features to keep network convergence simple and manageable. Known for QoS and high-performance, Alpine 3800 series switches are widely adopted globally for advanced 100M to Gigabit Ethernet connectivity. With Policy-Based Quality of Service (QoS), bidirectional rate shaping and bandwidth management, you can prioritize mission-critical applications and traffic to help maximize performance for delay-sensitive applications such as voice and video. VMAN features allow a scalable, cost-effective mechanism to deliver point-to-point and point-to-multipoint Layer 2 VPNs across metro networks.

The advanced ASICs and software technologies provide:

• Link aggregation of up to 8 links in a single trunk with sub-second failover and fail-back capabilities
• OSPF, RIPv1 and RIPv2, IP Multicast, BGP4 routing for Layer 3 redundancy for high availability and throughput
• Extreme Standby Router Protocol (ESRP), Ethernet Automatic Protection Switching (EAPS), Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) and STP extensions from Extreme
• High levels of security at the core of the network with ACLs, Network Login, and DoS protection features

Technical Specs

The Alpine series consists of the 5-slot Alpine 3804 and 9-slot Alpine 3808 with a common Switch Management Module (SMMi) and high-functionality I/O modules with 10/100 and Gigabit interfaces:

• GM-16T3: for 10/100/1000BASE-TX connectivity
• GM-16X3: for 1000BASE-X mini-GBIC connectivity
• GM-4Xi: for 1000BASE-X GBIC-based connectivity
• FM-24MFi: for 100BASE-FX multi-mode fiber connectivity
• FM-32Ti: for 10/100BASE-TX connectivity

Both AC and DC PSUs are supported.

Alpine 3800 chassis switches support the scalability, flexibility, security and management features required to build complete enterprise networks, including large campuses, branch offices, data centers and wiring closets.

With the advanced availability, scalability and management features, Alpine 3800 series switches are also deployed in service provider and metropolitan area networks.

Applications include:

• Highly available, simple converged networks supporting VoIP and wireless applications
• Server farms with high density 10/100 and gigabit traffic control requirements
• Gigabit metro Ethernet networks with requirements for VPNs to interconnect enterprise sites

Support & Warranty

Warranty Policies

If a problem should occur during the applicable warranty period, please follow the processes detailed below. Extreme Networks warranty coverage is detailed in the warranty card that ships with the product. The warranty period is measured from the date the product is shipped from Extreme Networks.

Warranty Process

If the product was purchased from an Extreme Networks channel partner, please contact the channel partner to process the warranty request. If the product was purchased directly from Extreme Networks, please call your local Extreme Networks TAC during normal business hours. When you call, please have the following information available:

• Product number (example, Summit® 400)
• Serial number of the product (on the outside of the product, or can be viewed via the CLI)
• Complete description of the product failure

If the problem requires that the product be shipped back to Extreme Networks, ensure that you have obtained a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number, note this RMA number on the box, and ship the defective unit back to the appropriate Extreme Networks location.
